Nikki’s painting for day three was started while she was sitting in Creamers Field, a Fairbanks farm that has been converted to a migratory waterfowl refuge. Its a favorite painting place for plein air painters in the area. Part of the painting was used to demonstrate wet-into-wet technique for foliage. Nikki finished the painting later while sitting at the Fairbanks Downtown Summer Market.
This painting bring brings back memories for me of my visits to Fairbanks.
For day three I leave the imaginary symbolic behind and focus on the luscious strawberries ripening in my garden. I love to paint from observation. There is nothing like holding a leaf or flower in front of you and turning it to see how the veins connect. But I haven’t abandoned spirals completely. Strawberry seeds create intersecting spirals across the surface of the fruit. And then there is the reward when the painting is completed of a sweet treat from the garden.
